Matapedia Lake is 14 mi (23 km) long and 2 mi (3.2 km) wide. It is drained southward by the Matapedia River, famous for salmon fishing. The lake is a well-known tourist center.
Val-Brillant is located on its South shore.

Snowkyte is a fast-growing sport. In 1999 and 2008, Val-Brillant hosted the WISSA (World Ice and Snow Sailing Association) and over 75 athletes from all over the world.
